Munson connects with retirees at Fort Leavenworth Retiree Appreciation Day
FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kansas — Munson Army Health Center Soldiers and civilian staff supported Fort Leavenworth Retiree Appreciation Day on Sept. 26 at the Lewis and Clark Center, connecting military retirees and their eligible family members with health screenings, information and services available through the military health system.
Col. Tiffany R. Bilderback, Munson Army Health Center director, served as a guest speaker during the opening ceremony and thanked retirees and their families for their service and continued contributions to the Army community.
“Your service strengthened our Army. Your sacrifices helped protect our nation. Your example inspired those who followed,” Bilderback said. “Although your active service may be complete, your place in the Army family is enduring.”
Following her remarks, Bilderback answered questions from the audience on a variety of topics including Munson Pharmacy services, how long dependent children remain eligible for TRICARE, and the health center’s hours and services.
Eligible beneficiaries may have covered prescriptions from military or civilian providers filled at the Munson Pharmacy at no cost when the medication is available through the military pharmacy. Regular TRICARE coverage generally continues until a dependent child turns 21, or age 23 for a qualifying full-time college student. Eligible young adults may purchase TRICARE Young Adult coverage until age 26.

She shared an example of an individual who recently arrived at the health center at 6 a.m. to use the pharmacy after an AI-generated search result incorrectly indicated that the pharmacy opened at that time.
“Please, if you have questions or need information, use our official sources for the most accurate information,” Bilderback said.
Many retirees age 65 and older receive their routine and specialty health care from civilian TRICARE-network providers in the surrounding community because their evolving health care needs may require access to a broader range of specialty services and clinicians with expertise in caring for older adults. Retiree Appreciation Day provided an opportunity to review resources available to them through Munson, including pharmacy services and the Armed Forces Wellness Center.
During the event, Munson team members offered blood pressure checks and oral health screenings and shared information about mental health resources. Representatives also discussed services available through the Armed Forces Wellness Center, which eligible retirees may use for health coaching, body composition testing and other wellness support.
Munson also provided a limited number of seasonal influenza vaccinations during the event. The high-dose influenza vaccine intended for beneficiaries age 65 and older had not yet arrived, but team members administered the standard-dose vaccine to eligible participants younger than 65 and to others when medically appropriate.
Retirees and their eligible family members who would still like to receive a flu vaccine may attend one of Munson’s upcoming outreach events at Frontier Chapel, located at 625 Thomas Ave., Fort Leavenworth:
- Oct. 2, noon to 4 p.m.
- Oct. 16, noon to 4 p.m.
- Oct. 27, 2 to 6 p.m.
- Nov. 6, noon to 4 p.m.
- Nov. 20, noon to 4 p.m.
Munson will notify the community when the high-dose vaccine for beneficiaries age 65 and older and those with certain chronic conditions becomes available.
The health fair reflected Munson’s continued commitment to helping retirees and their families remain connected to the military health resources and benefits they have earned.
