Fort Leavenworth Armed Forces Wellness Center adds walk-in BOD POD assessments

FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kansas — Established patrons of the Fort Leavenworth Armed Forces Wellness Center will soon have a more convenient way to track their body composition.

Beginning Nov. 3, the center will offer walk-in BOD POD assessments Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. at its location inside Munson Army Health Center.

The free walk-in service is available to patrons who have previously completed a BOD POD assessment at the Fort Leavenworth AFWC. Anyone who has not completed an initial assessment at this location must call 913-758-3403 to schedule their first appointment.

“Adding walk-in hours gives our established patrons more flexibility to follow up and monitor their progress,” said Maj. Kristina Fauser, director of the Fort Leavenworth Armed Forces Wellness Center. “The assessment gives us information we can use together to support each client’s health and fitness goals.”

The BOD POD measures body composition, providing estimates of body fat and fat-free mass. Results help patrons look beyond body weight alone and can inform individualized coaching with wellness center staff.

To prepare for an assessment, patrons should fast for at least two hours beforehand; water is permitted. They should also avoid vigorous exercise for at least 14 hours before testing. Men should wear spandex or Lycra shorts. Women should wear a sports bra with spandex shorts or a swimsuit.

BOD POD assessments are one part of the center’s preventive health services. The AFWC also offers metabolic testing, fitness and cardiovascular assessments, exercise and nutrition guidance, healthy sleep education and stress management. Health Educators work with patrons to understand their assessment results and develop practical plans based on their individual needs.

“Our services help people understand where they are today and identify realistic steps toward where they want to be,” Fauser said. “Whether someone wants to improve fitness, manage weight, sleep better or reduce stress, we can help them build a plan that fits their life.”

AFWC services are available at no cost to eligible service members, military retirees, family members and Department of War/Department of Army civilian employees ages 18 and older.

The center relocated inside Munson in June, bringing wellness services closer to primary care and other clinical resources.

To schedule an initial BOD POD assessment or learn more about other AFWC services for groups and individuals, call 913-758-3403.
